Ballet Northwest of Olympia, WA is gearing up for their spring performance Mother’s Day Weekend. A few weekends ago I went to the studio to photograph one of their dancers, Madeline for the poster and postcards for the performance. It was a fun shoot, with Josie, Ken, and myself coming up with ideas for the poster. I totally need to stretch before shoots like this because I found myself in some of the same positions as Madeline as I was photographing her. My turnout muscles were definitely sore afterwards. Thanks Madeline for holding some of the deep plies for long periods of time for the right shot. For the post processing, I really wanted the images to have a carnival/circus look and feel so I ended up adding hues of dark blue/purple to the shadows and tinting the highlights with yellows. Looking forward to seeing what the poster will end up looking like and of course the performance in May!
If you need an idea for a mother’s day present for your mom, take her to see a show! Great for kids too. Olympia Symphony Orchestra will be playing live for the performances, another great reason to go!
